Play audiobooks from the Files app on iPhone and iPad
Your audiobooks are already in Files, iCloud Drive or on a drive. Here's how to listen to them as books, with chapters and your place saved.
How to add a book
- Open Chapterpage and tap Import in the library.
- Pick a file or a whole folder in Files: iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or iPad, or connected storage.
- Chapterpage reads the title, author, cover and chapters, and puts the tracks in order.
- Tap the book to play. Your place is saved as you listen.
You can also share an audiobook file to Chapterpage from another app; shared files are copied into the app.
Chapters it reads
- M4B and M4A chapter lists
- MP3 chapter frames
- OverDrive MP3 chapter markers, across all the parts of a book
- A .cue sheet next to a single long file
- Otherwise, one chapter per track
Your originals are safe
Books picked in Files are played in place. Chapterpage never moves, rewrites or deletes them, and removing a book from the library leaves the original file alone. If a file moves, Chapterpage shows "Can't find this file" and lets you locate it, keeping your place and bookmarks.
Files questions
What about books in iCloud Drive?
They work. If iOS has moved a book to iCloud to save space, Chapterpage downloads it when you press play and tells you if you're offline.
Is there a limit on how many files?
No. Large box sets with hundreds of tracks import as one book, and big libraries import in the background.
Does a book with many folders work?
Yes. A folder with CD 1 / CD 2 subfolders becomes one book. A folder that holds several book folders imports each one as its own book.
